چکیده

In previous studies we have shown that the optical variability of quasars increases, on average, with redshift. We explained this dependance in terms of a hardening of the spectrum during bright phases, coupled with the increase of the rest-frame frequency for increasing red-shift. We re-analize now these correlations on the basis of new light curves of PG quasars, recently published by the Wise Observatory group.

The relation between the optical spectral slope and the luminosity for 17 Palomar-Green QSOs

Using 7.5-year spectroscopic monitoring data of a sample of 17 Palomar-Green QSOs (PG QSOs) (z=0.061-0.371), we obtain the optical spectral slope for each object at all epochs by a power-law fit to the spectra in continuum bands. All of these 17 PG QSOs exhibit obvious spectral slope variability. Most of the 17 objects show anti-correlation between the spectral slope and the rest-frame 5100Å co...

SPECTRAL VARIABILITY OF QSOs IN THE OPTICAL BAND

A new analysis of the variability of the spectral slope of PG QSOs has been performed, on the basis of recent literature data in the B and R photometric bands. Preliminary results confirm our previous findings concerning the increase of variability with the rest-frame observing frequency. We also find a correlation of the spectral slope with luminosity, consistent with temperature changes of an...

THE PHYSICAL CONNECTIONS AMONG IR QSOs, PG QSOs AND NARROW-LINE SEYFERT 1 GALAXIES

We study the properties of infrared-selected QSOs (IR QSOs), opticallyselected QSOs (PG QSOs) and Narrow Line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s). We compare their properties from the infrared to the optical and examine various correlations among the black hole mass, accretion rate, star formation rate and optical and infrared luminosities. We find that the infrared excess in IR QSOs is mostly in the fa...

Spectral Slope Variability of BL Lac Objects in the Optical Band

Light curves of eight BL Lac objects in the BVRI bands have been analyzed. All of the objects tend to be bluer when brighter. However spectral slope changes differ quantitatively from those of a sample of QSOs analyzed in a previous paper (Trevese & Vagnetti 2002) and appear consistent with a different nature of the optical continuum. A simple model representing the variability of a synchrotron...
